(long overdue) updates

1.17.09

san pedro fish market

we flew down to L.A. for the day. our first stop was the USC campus for my baby sister to check out (!!!). then we headed for the San Pedro Fish Market. us ladies had been there before but this was the first time for him*. it was a perfect mid-70s kind of day. we gorged on seafood, followed by ice cream and churros. we found a grassy knoll nearby to rest our subsequently enlarged bellies. once all had digested we headed back for home, where we capped off the night with ginger and makers...♥

2.13-2.14.09
back to LA.
kanye's storytellers.

he and i headed back to L.A. for our first outing as a client couple. we were welcomed by uncharacteristic rain and expected traffic. we stayed with greg, a gracious host with a beautiful condo and an even more beautiful pit named roscoe. our first night we headed out to VH1's storytellers to see mr. west do his thing. our mild skepticism proved to be wise if not undershot. he was insufferable. everything you go to a storyteller's taping for was missing. and just when we thought we might get a glimpse of some genuine, off the cuff anectdotes he would thro it all to shit by reshooting it for better lighting, lower background keys, etc. we left early. afterwards we shared our favorite worst moments of the show over dinner with lisa (our co-host) and greg.

the next day (valentine's day) we headed out to meet for brunch. the rain had subsided and we enjoyed plenty of sunshine. enough to make us walk back, which led to him and i having our first joint open house experience (check). we set off the airport shortly after only to find that we had left some 2 hours early. so, we decided to check out manahattan beach. turns out to be a bit of a monet (refer to clueless). we managed to find the beauty. then it came time to hop a cab to LAX...

enter Serge. as i crawled into the car i noticed a web of wires which led to a number of screens and heavy duty electronics. i asked what they were for. "you get in first, i explain", said Serge. i did as i was told. once we were both seated approxiamately 5 screens illuminated simultaneously, all displaying real-time feedback of us. Serge handed us two mics. we were in karaoke cab. we selected our songs and did our thing, all while being transported to the airport. when we came to a stop outside the alaska entrance Serge printed us a still photo, date-stamped of course. we were charmed. did i mention it was valentines day? we held hands all the way back home.

7.1-7.10.09

derailed trip to turkey

we set off for turkey on july 1st. first stop was seattle, where we got stuck overnight. next was new york, where we tried for 3 days to get a flight to istanbul. no luck. so, we tucked in our bottom lips and decided to head for maui (why not?). of course this meant we had to back track the 3,000 miles we had just traveled. yes, we came home. we gave ourselves a day to recoup and re-pack (and receive some big news, more on that later). then we set off for maui. we ate, slept, swam, slept, read, slept and went to our first luau. good times had by all.

perhaps this love is mortal after all

"Love never dies a natural death. It dies because we don't know how to replenish its source.
It dies of blindness and errors and betrayals. It dies of illness and wounds; it dies of weariness, of withering, of tarnishing."

- Anaïs Nin

wish list (cont'd)

::coney island::

coney island has been on my personal list for quite some time.
despite all of my trips to ny i have yet to experience its charm.
now i have the perfect partner to stroll down the boardwalk with; this has promoted its position to near the top of my must-do-in-'09 list.

a summer trip, naturally.

::brindle boxer puppy::

i love babies.
love love love babies.
lately i've been finding myself devouring baby-themed t.v. shows one after the other.

this is a dangerous activity for me.

it has disinterred my primal desire to make babies of my own.
so, to combat these longings i look to the next best things: puppies.
more specifically, brindle boxer puppies.
all i need is one.

he would be named oliver.

::impala super sport::

this one is a selfless request.
my person is an admirer of the chevy impala super sport.
he prefers any model within 5 years of 1969 or bewtween the years of 1994 and 1996.
since this is my wish list i will insert my two cents here: i prefer the models of the '60s.

there is none more deserving than he.

::mac notebook::

so, i've decided i'm ready to become a mac user.
pc's have been good to me but its time to upgrade.
i know the transition may be a bit of a struggle; there will be times of frustration, wistfull memories of complete comupter competency, etc.

nonethless, i'm ready.

so help me in my quest to cross over.
what model should i get (or rather, should you get me)?
what programs do i need?
i am a blank canvas...paint me with your apple wisdom.

more to come...

BOLT.

we go see kid movies.
3d kid movies.
without kids.
and we wear the glasses.

see us.*

BOLT is, in a word, perfect. the concept is downright endearing and the execution far surpasses any of your preemptive thinking. the supporting characters are so well played that they all but steal the film. it is knee-slappingly funny...evidenced by the red tops of my knees thanks to my viewing partner who diverged from the normal slapping of one's OWN knees to slap mine instead.

see this movie. borrow a kid if you don't have your own and are too scared to be seen entering the theater without one. but understand this is completely unnecessary; you too can hold your head high while viewing a pg-rated 3d film as the only person above four feet who wipes their own face (and/or other surfaces) without being the one in charge of said wiping. it helps if you have a willing partner (especially if he is your person).

*technically this was our first one (together) so the implied habitualness is a bit disingenuous...consider it foreshadowing.
