wish list (cont'd)

::coney island::

coney island has been on my personal list for quite some time.
despite all of my trips to ny i have yet to experience its charm.
now i have the perfect partner to stroll down the boardwalk with; this has promoted its position to near the top of my must-do-in-'09 list.

a summer trip, naturally.

::brindle boxer puppy::

i love babies.
love love love babies.
lately i've been finding myself devouring baby-themed t.v. shows one after the other.

this is a dangerous activity for me.

it has disinterred my primal desire to make babies of my own.
so, to combat these longings i look to the next best things: puppies.
more specifically, brindle boxer puppies.
all i need is one.

he would be named oliver.

::impala super sport::

this one is a selfless request.
my person is an admirer of the chevy impala super sport.
he prefers any model within 5 years of 1969 or bewtween the years of 1994 and 1996.
since this is my wish list i will insert my two cents here: i prefer the models of the '60s.

there is none more deserving than he.

::mac notebook::

so, i've decided i'm ready to become a mac user.
pc's have been good to me but its time to upgrade.
i know the transition may be a bit of a struggle; there will be times of frustration, wistfull memories of complete comupter competency, etc.

nonethless, i'm ready.

so help me in my quest to cross over.
what model should i get (or rather, should you get me)?
what programs do i need?
i am a blank canvas...paint me with your apple wisdom.

more to come...

BOLT.

we go see kid movies.
3d kid movies.
without kids.
and we wear the glasses.

see us.*

BOLT is, in a word, perfect. the concept is downright endearing and the execution far surpasses any of your preemptive thinking. the supporting characters are so well played that they all but steal the film. it is knee-slappingly funny...evidenced by the red tops of my knees thanks to my viewing partner who diverged from the normal slapping of one's OWN knees to slap mine instead.

see this movie. borrow a kid if you don't have your own and are too scared to be seen entering the theater without one. but understand this is completely unnecessary; you too can hold your head high while viewing a pg-rated 3d film as the only person above four feet who wipes their own face (and/or other surfaces) without being the one in charge of said wiping. it helps if you have a willing partner (especially if he is your person).

*technically this was our first one (together) so the implied habitualness is a bit disingenuous...consider it foreshadowing.

leave me alone...

...i just want to lay here in my room and let myself cry
i apologize if i've disappointed you
i got lost in my darkness and the light hurts my eyes

i'm over it.
without a clear grasp on what it is.
perhaps all of "it".

blah.

i'm going to sleep.
i don't have the energy to hope tomorrow is better.
i hope only for sleep.
sweet, isolated, idle, dark sleep.

i feel tired all the time, yeah, this weight is exhausting
i cannot please everyone, least of all me
have no more to give you, it's all ready been stolen
tell me, what's left for me, a melancholy melody

the eternal optimist

she is terribly convincing.
so is time and experince.
and my own self-sabotaging.
not to mention the insurmountable evidence of loveless marriages hinged on responsibility and duty.
all of which is compounded by what seems to be an epidemic of infidelity.

but in the name of optimism, here's hoping amy's wrong.

...cause i like this one.

she is...here!

i challenge you to not stand in awe of the greatness that is beyonce. she is exceptionally beautiful. she is extaordinarily talented. she is the star of our generation. i understand she may be a bit mainstream for some, lacking in social commentary or any real substance and/or innovation. to those i say, get over yourself. her voice, her style, her presence...c'mon, are we still arguing?

today her ablum "I am...Sasha Fierce" was released. pick it up, borrow it, download it, whatever, just don't try to deny it...or her.

catch up

recent events

who: me, him, best friends, etc.
what: digable planets
when: thursday, november 13th
where: 2410 n. mississippi

synopsis: the buddy ryan aka rev. shines (http://www.myspace.com/shinelaguage) opened up the sold-out show. the venue left much to be desired: the stage height is rediculously low, leaving most with little to no view, the bar lines were STUPID long and the bar itself was inadequately stocked and staffed (to say the least). [ir]regardless of these shortcomings, the show was a good time had by all. most portland fans who haven't already caught them in the act probably thought they had missed their chance...considering they have been off the map for quite some time. Butterfly, Doodlebug and Ladybug did not disappoint and served up a high-energy, nostalgia-enducing performance. it was an important moment in portland's hip hop.

*on a personal note, my crush on Butterfly was seriously rediscovered. seriously.

who: me + him
what: saturday market
when: sunday, november 16th
where: downtown, under the burnside bridge

synopsis: yes, we went to saturday market on a sunday. don't get boxed in by the name, its really a weekend market. anyways, it was a gorgeous day...perfect actually. it started off with my last day at a miserable job that ended early enough to enjoy the peak of the beautiful weather by walking down waterfront en route to one of my favorite places in my favorite city. for a people-watcher/lover and a people-watcher/cynic it is a dream: an abundance of highly-varied personalities, styles, pets, [pseudo] talents, etc. that being said, the strolling was uninspired and the market as a whole was fairly underwhelming. sort of an eventless outing. and then...MAGIC. the most amazingly hilarious/tragic/confusing/pathetic/stimulating incident occurred. the written word will not suffice. spoken word probably wouldn't either. only those few surveyors, including the two of us, will truly understand and appreciate what happened that day. a truly grand moment. this was followed by lunch/dinner at the oyster bar (208 sw ankeny) which included excellent oyster crackers, suprisingly good raw oysters, respectable clam chowder and a serious battle between us and a mean...no, cruel bloody mary (two, actually). the drinks were finished but somehow i still feel like mary won.

who: me, mama, baby sister
what: the boy in the striped pajamas
when: sunday, november 16th
where: fox tower

synopsis: a heart-breaking story about a young boy living in the core of nazi terrorism. he is the eight year old son of a nazi general who befriends a jewish boy living in a concentration camp near his home. while it is a well-made film, its no schindler's list (which i was saddened to learn my sister has yet to see). now, i understand that this is an unfair and obvious comparison to make but i nonetheless find it important to make note of. the film speaks to innocence and hypocrisy while highlighting the terrifying capabilities of common men. definitely worth checking out.

thats all for now.
stay tuned.

sleepless...

For All We Know
We May Never Meet Again
Before You Go
Make This Moment
Sweet Again

We Won't Say Goodnight
Until the Last Minute
I'll Hold Out My Hand
And My Heart Will Be in It

For All We Know
This May Only Be a Dream
We Come and We Go
Like the Ripples of a Stream
So Love Me, Love Me Tonight
Tomorrow Was Made For Some
Tomorrow May Never Come
For All We Know

Its one of those hard nights.

A Sad Day In California

California voted in favor of Proposition 8 (52.5%).

Proposition 8 is a California State ballot proposition that amends the state Constitution, to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman, overturning a recent California Supreme Court decision that had recognized same-sex marriage in California as a fundamental right.

Essentially the proposition mandates that under law a specific group of people will be treated differently than others (based on sexual orientation). It is legalized dscriminaton. Literally. This is not a conclusion based on personal opinion, it is merely a fact that can not be disputed. For anyone who has a vested interest in their personal rights and freedoms the passing of this proposition should be quite troubling. Terrifying, really.

The election of Barack Obama (who I happen to not completely agree with in regards to same-sex marriage) was such a moving display of the progress that this country has made and our investment to continue such progress. The passing of Proposition 8 is a sad reminder of just how much work we have to do.

they playin' basketball...

The season has already begun. I'll be pulling for Kobe (hi haters), the Blazers (you wanna go to RIP City?!), and I still hold a place in my heart for the Bulls (don't ask). Try to see past the politics and slow degradation of fundamental skill and enjoy...its still a great game.
